General Authority for Military Industries Signs MoU with Korea Defense Acquisition Program [05 Augusts 2019]

During the visit of HRH Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Crown Prince, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense to the Republic of Korea, GAMI Governor Ahmad Al Ohali, signed a memorandum of understanding with Wang Jong-hong, Minister of South Korea's Defense Procurement Program (DAPA) with the objective of developing a framework for general cooperation between the two sides in military acquisitions and R&T. 

 

The ceremony was held at the Presidential Blue Palace in Seoul, in the presence of the President of the Republic of Korea, HRH Prince Mohammed bin Salman, members of the official delegation accompanying him and senior officials of the South Korean government.

 

H.E. GAMI Governor Ahmad Al Ohali affirmed; the signing of this memorandum comes under the framework of strengthening defense and industrial partnerships between the Kingdom and the Republic of South Korea.

 

He indicated that the memorandum will contribute to the development of military acquisition capabilities, including the acquisition mechanism, the development of military industries, standards and specifications for military products and requirements for qualification and control of manufacturers, as well as the inspection, evaluation and acceptance of military products, research, development and technology in Defense.

 

The signing of this memorandum falls under the framework of GAMI’s efforts aimed at localizing manufacturing and sustainment of the qualitative military systems in the Kingdom in line with the Vision2030 and the Kingdom's endeavors to develop its Defense Sector.

 

It should also be noted that the GAMI aims to localize Defense Industries in Saudi Arabia and achieve the main national priorities, namely: raising military readiness, enhancing strategic autonomy, promoting joint operation between all security and military bodies, developing a sustainable domestic Defense Sector, and increasing transparency and efficiency of spend
